Procedure |
It is important that students who intend to apply for the Professional Practicum Program read, understand and follow the following guidelines:
| 1. | All students wishing to undertake a period of full-time research or professional experience at UNSW@ADFA of 1 to 6 months duration will be enrolled in a special program called Professional Practicum (Program 6037). | |
| 2. | All Practicum students will be treated as non-award international students, making them eligible for a Student Visa. Please note that students coming for less than 3 months will not need to enter Australia on a Student Visa. |

| i. | Regular civilian students coming for more than 3 months should obtain a Student Visa, Subclass 575. Please refer to your nearest Australian Consulate or the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMIA), website www.immi.gov.au for further advice and information. |
|
| ii. | Students sponsored by Defence (eg, from the Bundeswehr Universitat, St Cyr) should obtain a Student Visa Subclass 576 through the Defence Attache at the Australian Embassy in their home country. | |
| 3. | All Practicum students are eligible to receive the Transport Concession granted by ACTION buses (the A.C.T. Internal Omnibus Network). | |
| 4. | Practicum students are enrolled in an overall program code (6037) as full-time research students and are therefore not enrolled in specific classes. | |
| 5. | The School is responsible for assessing the student’s academic background and for making a recommendation to the relevant authority on the student's english proficiency. | |
| 6. | The Professional Practicum fee of AUD330.00, which
includes the Goods and Services Tax (GST) imposed by the Australian
Government, covers application processing and administration. |

| 7. | Before applying for your student visa you need to obtain mandatory health insurance - Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). This can be obtained on-line from Medibank Private at http://www.medibank.com.au/join/overseas/osjoinprocess.asp. The cost is currently $81 for 1-3 months and $162 for 4-6 months. Please list the International Students Officer, Student Administrative Services, Australian Defence Force Academy, Canberra ACT 2600, as your address in Australia. Swedish and Norwegian students will be exempt from taking the Medibank OSHC if they have the following study insurance for their period at UNSW:
Note: Evidence of this cover must be provided before the student arrives in Australia to ensure OSHC waiver. |
