Facilities on Campus

The UNSW@ADFA campus is smaller than most Australian academic institutions, providing specialised postgraduate study opportunities and an excellent student/staff ratio.The campus has a large and comprehensive library, state-of-the-art computing facilities, well-equipped and modern laboratories and a concessions area which includes a hair salon, a University Co-operative Bookshop, credit unions, a 24-hr ATM and cafeteria/kiosk. A modern gymnasium and sporting facilities are available to full-time students.There is easy access to free car parking and a taxi rank and bus stop are located on campus, making it easy for you to get around Canberra.

Academy Library conducts a variety of educational activities as part of the Information Literacy program. These include orientation sessions for newcomers, seminars about finding and using resources on specific subject disciplines and online information. The Equity Unit provides a range of services which may be accessed by students and counselling services can be arranged as required.

Coffee Shop

The Coffee Lounge offers hot meals, snacks, hot and cold drinks and confectionary.

Educational Technology Services (ETS) is a work group established as part of the restructuring of UNSW@ADFA to bring together the services previously provided separately by the Centre for Media Resources, the Document Production Centre, Flexible and Distance Education Centre and WebCT support. ETS provides a range of support activities designed to assist the improvement of the students’ experience. These include services such as flexible learning support, including off-campus (distance) education and online learning, graphic design for print and digital environments, document production, central teaching venue support and media development, video production, photography and off-air recording.

Hairdresser
A hairdressing salon which provides a full range of hair cutting services is open between the hours of 0900 and 1700. Hairdressing services are detailed at Salon on ADFA website.

Indoor Sports Centre
The Indoor Sports Centre is open to all staff and full-time postgraduate students. Those wishing to use the facilities should apply at the reception desk of the Indoor Sports Centre for an annual pass. In order to apply, students will have to present their student card. Facilities include a 10m indoor pool, squash, basketball and tennis courts, weights and cardio rooms.

Information Communication and Technology Services(ICTS) supports, as a large part of its role, the campus network with complementary links to sources within the ACT, and elsewhere in Australia and overseas via AARNet and GrangeNet. The ICTS is responsible amongst other tasks for ensuring students have necessary Passwords and ID cards.

ICT Services operates several hosts for teaching, research, and administration purposes, and directly supports a number of servers for student laboratories. The functions provided by these include WebCT, email, news, file transfer, directory services, backup and disaster recovery, security and virus detection, the UNSW@ADFA corporate web site, and access via the WWW to the Internet.

The Centre maintains a number of application packages available on various machines. These include scientific and graphic libraries, statistical and econometric analysis programs, symbolic mathematics, text analysis, processing, typesetting, simulation and engineering design, and database work.

Research and Research Training Office

UNSW@ADFA Research & Research Training Office facilitates research efforts of Academic Staff and Postgraduate Students through the administration & assistance with preparation and submission of applications for internal or external funding sources and is the first point of contact for all issues relating to funding. http://www.unsw.adfa.edu.au/units/research/index.html

Student Administrative Servicesprovides advice and guidance to students on admission, enrolment, timetabling, academic progression and graduation.

An orientation program and an intensive academic preparation course are available for International postgraduate students, including classes on English for Academic Purposes (language and appropriate learning skills); academic skills (word processing, library research); academic and pedagogical guidance, and expectations and advice from staff. UNSW@ADFA also has a designated staff member to assist international students, particularly upon arrival and in the early stages of their study, and to assist with relevant ongoing support and advice.
